A friend and I visited a few people in area hospitals today and during our visits she read this verse.
But unto you who revere and worshipfully fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings and His beams, and you shall go forth and gambol like calves [released] from the stall and leap for joy. (Malachi 4:2; Amplified)
It stirred in me some things I previously taught in my Love and Healing class. I want to share some of the things I found concerning His wings!
He Who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely and in Him I [confidently] trust! For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge… (Psalm 91:1-4, Amplified)
When He is your God and has your trust, your respect, your obedience you will find a refuge under His wings and He will cover you.
This is what Jesus said to Jerusalem.
…how often I have desired and yearned to gather your children together [around me], as a hen [gathers] her young under her wings… (Luke 13:34, Amplified)
He desired and yearned to cover them and to protect them. But He goes on to say, “…but you would not.” It wasn’t that He didn’t want to gather, cover and protect them. It was that they did not receive Him as from the Father and in turn rejected Him. But there were some in His time that received Him as from the Father and trusted in Him. One of those people was the woman with the issue of blood.
And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. (Matthew 9:20-21, KJV)
And a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians, and could not be healed by anyone, Came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment, and immediately her flow of blood ceased. (Luke 8:43-44, Amplified)
An interesting note concerning the prayer shawl that Jewish men wore, their prayer closet. The corners of the prayer shawl are often called ‘wings’.
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings… (Malachi 4:2, KJV)
And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent around into all the surrounding country and brought to Him all who were sick And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole. (Matthew 14:35-36, KJV)
Malachi 4:2 tells us that it was for those who fear His name. In the post from March 5, 2009 I discuss the fear of the Lord. It is really quite beautiful and I recommend you read Malachi 4:2 in light of the insight found in the post from March 5th.
I remember the Lord saying this to me once about a woman that passed away. “I was her Savior but never her Lord.” He said it with what almost sounded like sadness in His voice. Just as Jesus spoke to Jerusalem about wanting to gather, cover and protect her children.
Fear Him (have an awe, respect, reverence for Him). Obey His commands knowing that His commands were inspired by His love and His desire for your well-being. Let Him gather you to Himself and find protection and healing in His wings.
He Who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]… He will cover you with His pinions… under His wings shall you trust and find refuge… Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him… with long life will I satisfy him… (Psalm 91:1, 4, 14, 16; Amplified)
What a neat teaching on His wings! I’ve never heard it in same perspective.
Funny, I got up this morning early because God wanted some time alone with me. One of the passages He took me to was Psalm 91!! Great word on a great passage…thank God for His wings!
