Today’s The Day

We’re here, Election Day 2008! I spent much of the day in prayer yesterday over the elections, the nation, and more. During a prayer time at my church, something came up in my heart and I’d like to share it with you.

Regardless of who is elected today from the President all the way down to local offices, 1 Timothy 2:1-4 doesn’t change. We are still to pray for those in authority “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty”. These prayers are on behalf of all men for God wishes all men to be saved.

As I was praying yesterday, it occurred to me for the first time, to pray Hebrews 13:20-21 from the Amplified Bible over our government and over our leaders.

Now may the God of peace [Who is the Author and the Giver of peace]… Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (the Messiah); to Whom be the glory forever and ever (to the ages of the ages). Amen (so be it).

Back in 1 Timothy 2 it says that “such [praying]”, praying for leaders and those in authority, “is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior. Who wishes all men to be saved…” (Amplified).

The government of this nation, the leaders of this nation are here to serve and be a blessing to the people of this nation. I think we should help them by praying that God would make them what they ought to be God and to the people they serve. They ought to be strong and courageous. They ought to be wise and just. They ought to be servants of the people. They ought to be honest and upright. They should, as Solomon prayed, have understanding hearts. In the King James the footnote says that ‘understanding’ means ‘hearing’.

In the Amplified 1 Kings 3:9 reads, “So give Your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and bad. For who is able to judge and rule this Your great people?”

Our prayers made a difference in the elections of the past and they will make a difference today as well. And it is the “earnest (heartfelt, continued)” prayers of righteous men, women and children that will continue to make “tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]” (James 5:16, Amplified).

Let’s make tremendous power available for this nation, its leaders and her people through our prayers of faith and love.

Don’t forget to pray and vote today!

America

We are in a very interesting and intense time in this nation. Times look hard. People have taken sides and are pointing fingers. Seeds of division are being sown all around. Unfortunately, more and more this is the way things are in this nation, but more so at election time. But one thing needs to remain clear, regardless of what side we are on, and what the other side is doing, it is not an excuse to step out of love. It is not an excuse to disregard and break the commandment we received from our King.

Does that mean we have to agree on everything? No. But even in disagreement we must remember that love is patient and kind. We must remember that love is humble and courteous. We must remember that it is the love way, God’s way, that never fails. He did not tell us to love so that we would be trampled on and overcome by evil. No, He was telling us the way to overcome is by love.

If the enemy can get us into fear, out of faith and love, he can and will overrun this nation. Please know that I am not talking about a particular party or candidate. I’m talking about an enemy that hates what this nation stands for: “One nation under God with liberty and justice for all”. The enemy knows a house divided cannot stand. He is hoping to divide this nation and watch it fall. Refuse to be divided in your heart from this nation or the people of this nation. Whether you agree or not, you can and still must love.

I was praying over these things yesterday. I wasn’t praying in fear, but in faith and in love and from my heavenly seat of authority. And God dropped a familiar phrase into my heart. “Fear not. Only believe and she shall be made whole.”

Fear not. Only believe. And she, America, shall be made whole. Remember it is love that casts out all fear. Yield to love. Trust God, Who is Love. Believe to see the goodness of the LORD, hesed – God’s love, in the land of the living (Psalm 27:3). If we in the Body of Christ will fear not (stay out of divisive hate, doesn’t mean you have to agree); only believe – trust God, believe to see His goodness in America; she, America will be made whole.

I voted today. I voted from a place of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (faith), gentleness (meekness, humility) and self-control. I cast my vote in love and love never fails!
