In First Corinthians 12, Paul speaks to us about the gifts of the Spirit – the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, and divers kinds of tongues. He tells us in verse thirty-one that we are to “covet earnestly the best gifts” (KJV) or “earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces” (Amplified).
Many of us have done just that. We have sought the Spirit, made adjustments and done whatever we believed was necessary for the gifts to operate in our lives. However, Paul went on to say in that same verse that there was a “more excellent way” (KJV), “one that is better by far and the highest of them all—love” (Amplified).
How many of us have coveted earnestly and zealously cultivated this love that Paul speaks of? It is the highest way. In Isaiah 55:9 we are told that God’s thoughts and God’s ways are higher than our thoughts and our ways. So we join David in his prayer, “Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths” (Ps. 25:4, Amplified). And here in 1 Corinthians 12:31 He does just that. His way that is higher than our way, the highest way of them all, is the way of love… the HIGH way of love.
Hi Delia,
I just wanted to leave you a note to tell me how much your blog has ministered to me! The other day I was reading your blog about hearing from our Lord and you told the story about the shoes you wore, how you felt you should stop and get cash and also stop and get gas and how you’ve learned to listen to those as words from the Lord. This week I decided to participate in a Christmas giivng program through one of the radio stations and I was supposed to buy 2 purses – one just a small handbag, but one of the ladies wanted a “backpack purse”. The guy on the phone said he had no idea what that was, but I told him I knew what it was and would get one, but knew they could be hard to find. The next day at work I read your blog and prayed that God would show me where to get one. In my spirit, I felt like I heard Ross or Marshalls (2 stores across the street from work). Well, I’m just a little hard-headed and looked at Kohls, Walmart & Target with NO luck – I was even debating calling the radio station to ask what they wante to do if I couldn’t find the “backpack purse”, but I KNEW I couldn’t do that until I checked either Ross or Marshalls. This morning on the way into work, I quickly ran into Ross (and with a bit of anticipation I must say) and sure enough they had SEVERAL “backpack purses” – WOW!!!! I was SO excited and SO thankful for your blog encouraging me to listen to that voice that may just seem like a random thought, but that actually is the voice of our Lord. And, of course I was SO thankful for God’s grace and patience with me!!!!!

I much prefer infromative articles like this to that high brow literature.
